Readings

On WUOG, 90.5 FM, Athens, Georgia, the program Spectrum is hosted by F. Stanley Julien. The Poetic Corner segment features local Athens poets reading their work.

  • A 1 hour program , The Corner 2, was broadcast on Friday, November 16, 2012 and can be streamed from the archive. I read in three sets along with F. Stanley Julien, Bobbi Johnson, Alex Johns, and Sean Polite. Sets begin at 0:00, 17:20, 33:15, and 49:10. My readings included "A Springtime Promise" (2:50 - 6:00), "The Hawk is Hunting" (17:25 - 19:35), and "Tryptophanic Sugar Buzz Blues" (34:40 - 37:55).
  • A 3 hour special evening of poetry and music, The Corner, was broadcast on Friday, February 10, 2012. Susan Richardson and I read "A Way Out of Wilderness" and "Old Hipster Slow Rockin' Blues." Eighteen Athens poets and a special musician participated. You can stream this program from The Corner.mp3 archive. Click the start button on the left side of the status box to begin the streaming, then hit the pause button and give this 300 mb file 3 to 5 minutes to load before advancing to the poetry readings. When the blue sound wave graphic reaches the end of the box, then you can restart the streaming, click inside the status box, grab and advance the vertical time bar to 10 minutes for introductory remarks or to 11 minutes, 45 seconds for the readings. I was unable to stream this using an iPhone, but had success on my laptop.
  • In the November 12, 2011 show, Susan Richardson and I read "To Our Children Leaving Home." In addition, I read "Afternoon Joe" and "To My Two Year Old Daughter a Quarter Century Later." You can download or stream this program from the Spectrum archives. The Poetic Corner segment begins at minute 54 and ends at minute 76.
Athens Word of Mouth posts recordings of its monthly readings at http://www.athenswordofmouth.com/.

The January 4, 2012 Athens Word of Mouth included musical elements to accompany the poetry. Here are links to two fine performances. First, Aralee Strange, accompanied by Bill Oglesby on flute and sax, performing "On Weeds and the Millefiori of an Idle Mind." Next, Michelle Castlebury reading and playing sax for "A Beautiful Machine."
